Barbel/Chub Fishing
Thinking of doing some Barbel/Chub fishing of an evening with my dad.
I have a season ticket for a couple of pits in the Lea Valley that also gives me some access to the River Lea.
I have the rods (1.75lb TC Quiver) and reels (shimano 4000Dl FB) but what sort of lb line should I be using? Which rigs are recommended?
Any good websites or books that I can have a look at?

I've been using 12lb of late, nice long 15/20lb braided hooklengths. I know some lads are using upwards of 18lb. It's all relevant to fish size, rocks, snags weed etc...........

Re: Barbel/Chub Fishing
6lb mono for feeder fishing for chub. Some sort of paternoster/helicopter rig for lead or feeder. Cast upstream and watch for drop-backs on the tip.
For barbel 30lb PowerPro with four to five foot hooklink of whatever takes your fancy. Use rods with a tc of over 2.5lb - no need to quivers!

Works wherever I've used it. I'm sure it'll work anywhere else.

Dave, have you used that method on small shallow rivers like the upper great ouse or the Lea where you are fishing towards just a handful of fish?

Think the barbel tackle will be needed this weekend. Rivers are getting a good old flush through
Got some new baits to try, sticky baits pure tuna liquid and complex t boilies from dynamite. These things scream barbel, anybody else tried this gear?

Just been looking at the pure Tuna liquid in my local, I was going to soak the sticky krill boilies in it.

That tuna liquid is prime! Cant see much turning thier noses up at it.
Going to use it to mix into groundbait, soak pellets, glug boilies.
