Re: A very fine catch!

What a fish!

I recently saw an eel in my new venue that can’t have been far off that sort of size, could only see about 2 foot of it but couldn’t see either end, or even where the fin finished on the top of its body. Nearly fell in when I realised what it was!

Re: Rudd Fishing

Would you be fishing somewhere I might know by any chance??

I love Rudd, my favourite fish of all. A big bit of bread flake under a float, or spraying maggots. Love it. All year round too, not just a summer fish.

Re: Tinca time?

That’s a beauty! Good Angling. Has anyone fished for tench in deep water? There’s an area of one of the lakes I’m currently fishing that goes down to 18’-20 feet, but it looks lovely; a nice gentle-ish slope which is covered in weed, on the end of a spit. Feels ideal but I’ve never fished for tench ...

Re: Boiling bait...or not?

Some particles can be bad for the fish if not cooked I believe, but most cooking is done to bring the fermentation forward and make them more attractive in my understanding. In America they use a lot of maize and they just soak that for weeks at a time, they never boil it. A fish doesn’t have a very...

Plus, 10% off at Angling Direct this weekend. I’m looking at either the shimmy X-Aero 6000 or, more likely, the Daiwa Emblem br25.

One tip, put a solid wire jerk bait trace on with it, I had a double not just hit it last night, but actually take it in it’s mouth for a few seconds. Nearly shat myself :laughs:

Re: Tinca time?

Other than a handful of 10mm pellets, the biggest stuff in there is maggots. I don't want them getting preoccupied on tiny particles or pellets that are impossible to replicant on the hook. There is also molasses meal mixed in with it which you can't see, probably not enough really put I've less tha...

Re: Tinca time?

Sorry I meant for freebies. I expect there will be plenty of smaller skimmers in the lakes I’m fishing so gonna use artificials on the hook. But just discovered my local shop does a gallon of week old maggots for £12, so gonna spod out dead’s and then use lives in the feeder and/or dead’s in a bag a...

Re: Tinca time?

This was my first tench of the year, pretty fish just a shame it was on my carp rods but It whetted my appetite for a bigger one this year, last spring was very sparse on the tench front for me. The fish in the second picture worked the rods properly though

Who’s Tina? :laughs:

I was going to start this weekend but my new lake is flooded out so I went carping on my other lake instead, had two tench and lost one so they are awake in places.

I can’t wait to get started on them this spring, but everything feels a bit behind still.

Re: Harrison Torrix or Chimera

Dave, is there much between the two blanks in 2lb and 1.75lb? I don’t want to go over powered for the tench. In the 11ft Torrix? Not too much. I've only had tench to something over 6lb on the 11ft 2lb and it hasn't overgunned them. It was a lot of fun with a mid-double common though! Sorry, I meant...

Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. I’m gonna choose between the 11ft Torrix and the 1.75lb chimera, and then in the near future I’ll get some heavier rods I can use for distance work and barbel, and probably make another faff of choosing between Torrix and chimera blanks :laughs: Dav...

Harrison Torrix or Chimera

Evening all, I’m looking to buy some new tench rods and can’t decide between the two mentioned blanks, or whether to go for 2lb test or 1.75lb. I’ve never seen the chimera before, does it differ much to the Torrix? I own an 11ft 2lb test Torrix surface rod and love it, it’s capable of amazing things...

I have been looking at this stuff, I do suffer from the cold and the chaps in the local tackle shop say its super warm.
