Re: Abu servicing.

None of mine have been touched in years and the main one I use frequently a 5601jb that I bought at the first ever Pac convention I attended must be 10 years ago has never been stripped only the odd bit of oil , I’ve owned a cpl of curados in between and they were like a bag of nuts & bolts in comp...

Re: Abu servicing.

I think I’m going to roll with that jimmy and say if it’s not broken don’t fix it. Will apply oil to the spots crofty mentions. I might save up for an old model and service it just for the practise. Cheers for the advice gents!

Abu servicing.

Afternoon gents, Just curious, how often would you get an Abu 6501c3 serviced? I’ve had mine maybe 8 months now, so far haven’t oiled it or anything as it seems pretty well lubricated. From the 16th it’ll be used nearly every week as I only ever jerkbait for pike. The only time it’s not out with me ...

Sorry for the dumbass question but is it a fly reel or centrepin style John? I know little to nothing about vintage gear but love learning about it!

Re: Scales!

Thanks Alan, that’s kinda the idea, I’d like to develop the eye for weight as I’m finding pike are very difficult to judge, same as perch when your used to fly fishing for trout and grayling. I’ve found I tend to underestimate pike. I’ve got one of those special tapes to measure fish with too but I’...

Re: Scales!

I’ve gone with the ones crofty suggested, the Samson’s. It does seem there’s abit of a shortage of scales that fall into the specs I have stated. Maybe one day I’ll invest in a really decent set but for now this tubular set will do. Cheers for the answers gents.

Re: Scales!

Ive got flyweights they are ok but a right faff to zero them. Id rather have something else. Next time i buy any it will be salter super samson. The thing that puts me off the Samson is they either don’t go to 40lb or they’re in kg. I say I want up to 40 as who knows what’s out there, never say nev...

Scales!

Looking for a decent set of scales, under £50, must be tough and compact enough to fit in a lure bag.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the fly weights although that’s what I’m leaning towards.....

What are you guys using?

Re: Rod casting weight specs.

Thanks Daniel, I feel abit easier about chucking an extra 10g or so now. Mind I’ve found on my UL setup that’s rated 1-8g really feels iffy at 7 or 8g. I guess it’s something I’ll have to experiment with.

Re: Rod casting weight specs.

Thanks for the reply Alan, that’s what’s confusing, I’ve tried lures close to the top end of the specs given and it feels solid as a rock, I just don’t want to find myself with a snapped rod and an invalid warranty 😂

Rod casting weight specs.

I’m sure this has been covered 1001 times, but how much notice would you take of the casting restrictions on your rod, I’ve got a Lumby sledge hammer rated to 129g, the majority of my lures average around 110g. I’ve heard a few folks claim that Dave is a tad cautious on his rod specs. The reason I’v...
