First Pike of the season

Post by Ole esox »

Hi all

I just thought I would share my first pike session of the season which I felt I had to share.

I took my Son, who’s 21, but first time pike fishing to a local drain. Just simple float fished deabaiting in the margins, and whilst setting up his second rod he caught an 11ld er , and 20 minutes later (beginners luck) 😊 a 16lb er on the bank, Smiles alround. Fearing a blank coming on a couple of hours later the float bobbed and disappeared , you know the feeling 😊, and a PB just shy 21lb, happy days ! A couple of jacks at the end to end a morning session we went home smiling.

The main reason I wanted to post this is because I haven’t been piking much in recent years , and only had 1 jack last year from the same area from a couple of trips. I feared pike numbers were on the low after the pictures you anD articles you read about pike heads on the bank and illegal taking of all species.

I’m just thankful they seem to be Thriving
