Have a go yourself  Making them is easy. Making them spin up well is a bit hit and miss.

You'll need:
Wire - 0.8 or 0.9mm spring temper. Spintec
Beads/brass weights - eBay
Clevises - eBay
Jewelry pliers - eBay again.
Blades - eBay yet again, or for more fancy ones, various american websites - lurepartsonline and jannsnetcraft are good.

There’s some instructions in Charlie Bettals book ‘the art of lure fishing’ on how to build spinners and spoons etc. You can pick the book up for peanuts!

If you want to colour any metal spoon or lure you can do it yourself using bake-on paint. The same paint used by people who paint china cups etc.
You clean the surface, add a thin coat and bake it in a normal oven, the temps etc are on the bottles. Comes out rock hard and shiny, nothing else needs to be done.
Ive painted loads of lures this way and believe me they've caught plenty of fish.

To make a spoon carve the shape you want in a lump of hard wood, oak from old furniture is excellent. You will need an engineers ball pein hammer (the pein is the round end opposite the flat end) use thin aluminium sheet to learn on, progress to copper and thicker material as your skill with a hammer improves.
Copper pipe can be flattened to make v heavy spoons. Drill holes or punch them through with a nail.

The best thing about making your own lures is you can change those that dont catch to something else with a little time and effort.

Jig spinners are best of both worlds - blade attraction and quick change jighead shad / grub options.

Great for spin, takes on drop, snag avoidance, etc.

Success with perch (and lots of pike and chub too) on these "blade-above jig spinners", led me to success with bigger ones for pike too.
AGM Spinner Jig Size 0 Colorado – Silver (6pcs) £2.30

Always wondered about hits to blade, but enjoy a good "hookups to touches" ratio with them.
