Has anyone lure fished Cheddar Reservoir? Any good?
I'm thinking of a trip to Cheddar Res - never been before.
Looks more of a dead-bait water but I want to try it out with lures.
Will I be wasting my time?
Anyone been recently?
Cheers

Cheddar is probably not ideal for lure fishing at this time of year, a lot of it is deep (20ft+) and weedy with a shelf at the bottom of the steps that you will probably lose lures on. I think most people who lure fish it do so in the summer when the pike are more active and more likely to be in the shallower areas.

Matt (?) have you heard of the eels in it? I threw in some fish heads and they were surrounded by eels of around 11/2-2 lb eels.. Heard much much bigger in there.

Yep I've seen some trapped in the bottom of the tower and also when tench fishing they come in close and pick up the bait dropped from the feeder. Seen them up to probably 3lb plus but heard of bigger, shame no night fishing allowed!

Cheddar is very good for lure fishing at all times of the year, although winter months would be better spent on nearby rivers and drains as these can be unfishable during the summer months.
Also always check the reservoir before purchasing a ticket as it can be pretty bad at times, it is very exposed and can be very windy, also bristol water have the habit of pumping water in and out at will, when the water is up, the steps are a pain (you end up hooking the steps on the retrieve) and i would advise using a diving lure so you can let it float up before reaching the steps.

Not going to advocate summer piking on there... Just not sporting
