What time of the year?

Post by ckp82 »

What time of the year do you stop throwing lures, or do you throw them all the time?
I’m just wandering if it gets to cold for lures? I had a couple of jacks yesterday and they hardly took the lure, the bites literally felt like I was pulling through light weed. The lure had to be on the bottom and retrieved very slowly too.
I’d be interested to hear your replies.

I'll quite happily cast a lure throughout the pike season.
It's a case ,that on some days they like a fast retrieve others slow ,sometimes twitched, stop in start etc .then there's the depth to consider, bouncing on the bottom, mid water or on the top.
And then you get the days that nothing seems to work ,where mr and mrs pike don't want to play ball at all
Don't you just love pike fishing

I've caught pike on lures during heatwaves and from a tiny patch of open water on an iced-over reservoir, after weeks of sub-zero temperatures.

Always worth a try, anytime.

I do a fair bit of wobbling and there are lots of times when a lure had caught a fish that had previously looked at the dead.

Always a chance if your lures in the water, if you dont try you've no chance.

Slow and close to the bottom is my approach in the colder months.

All year, although Spring is I think the optimum time of year on most waters...
