I cant remember if a Jake or Grandma is made in two halves and glued together. We had one that wasn't glued properly! No reason you cant stick a tail on but there will be do recess for the tail as there is on proper tailed lures.
Happy to be alive!!!!

Jon... they are likely melted together with a plastic solvent (MEK). Here are some xray images of Jakes/Grannies where you can see the cavities.
First image, column 1, 3rd lure down is a 9" Granny, next lure down is a 7" Granny, column 2 second lure down is a 6" Jake or Grannie.
Second image, 1st column second lure down is an 8" Jake.
You need tails with a profile that will fill inner wall profile so as not to leak in. Or you can fill the lure with expanding cavity wall foam, scrape a litlle out and seal the end of it with araldite to make your own internal wall preventing leak-in.

Hi Andrew,
Did a friend in Military take those xrays?

That’s very helpful Andrew, thanks. I’m going to save those pics for future reference. Nice idea with the foam too!

Yes that would be his work.
As a career soldier he ran battlefield hospitals in Bosnia and A'stan amongst others.
For nearly 20 years he xrayed many many lures for our group to ensure those we were using were through-wired, he also uncovered forgeries informing the manufacturers when even they didnt know about it!
He built many of the lures I still use today and left me all his tackle when he passed away, sadly missed but Im surr he would be pleased his handiwork was still proving useful.
Thanks for sharing.
