Bulldawg

Post by P.Harvey »

I have just lost my 20 year old original large Bulldawg and I would like a replacement. But I have not purchased one for years where is the best place to get one ?
I have looked on EBay and they go for about £28 the one I’m looking for is the one with two large trebles on the belly.
Are they still in fashion these days or are you guys using something better ?
Advice please

Do you chop the single off? Good lures - nightmare unhooking if they're inhaled

The single gets cropped off all of mine, and the supplied trebles get binned and downsized to 1/0 ST36s.

Buy from the States  most retailers ship quite quickly and prices are OK right now if you don't get hit with import duty... I usually buy a dozen or so every year to replace damaged lures or to top up the collection with some new colours or sizes. Direct from MI at https://musky-innovations.myshopify.com/collections or try The Musky Shop, etc. Some of the latest bull dawgs are super nice. Always a fav of mine on the trout waters, they never go out of fashion with pike

I bought a few lures from the states this year and got hit for import tax, was a bit gutted as the price of the lures was a good, but having to pay that took the shine off it.

I hear of folk getting lures delivered and not getting hit with a tax bill, but it's pretty much every single time for me, which is why I seldom order from the States anymore. The weak pound and 20% VAT just make it way too expensive.

My luck isn't that good I'm sorry to say. I've avoided it only a handful of times, but have mates in other parts of the UK who never seem to get smacked with it. As per the above post, it's just luck of the draw I suppose.

Has anyone had any success with the Suzy Sucker?

I had fancied trying them a few years ago and forgot.

The mention of Franglais reminded me.

I think the dawg lost its way when they started moulding the tails for me, the cut tail had the better tail and less lift on the troll. I personally prefer the Mag Dawgs because they are cut tails and they do seem to attract the better fish. I even had a take on the pounder a couple of weeks ago and lost the fish on the surface and it looked a good fish, I have it on film but sdaly all you can see is the swirl of her going back down

40cm real eels for me or my own home poured curltails, depending on the size of lure I want.
Being unrigged I can weight and rig them however I wish according to my needs.
