I remove them as soon as i buy them and replace them with my own.
The first one I bought I had it on the rod ready for a troll my mate said I don't like the look of that trace gave it a tug and it snapped. If a fish had taken that it was gone if I'd attempted even a gentle cast it was gone.
The year later same mate playing a decent trout near the boat had the bottom of the trace snap and the fish gone with the tail single hook they used to put on them.
I'd changed all mine by then.
