Ducklings
Saw my first set of ducklings Saturday, about ten of them over 30ft of water with no sign of mum, if only they know what lies beneath, get your surface lures out chaps

Re: Ducklings
Ive got some of those duckies, they look fantastic but the fish dont seem to think so.
Perhaps because Ive given them a swim where there isn't any pike?

Wind 'em in quick when they get close to the margins, otherwise all you'll catch is herons!

Ducks clearly do work but my Savage Gear effigy has caught nothing.
Been several occasions where I've ran a SG duck over a spot only to have a take on the Spro rat on the next cast.
Good at attracting humans - not so good for fish.

A Scuttlebug is what you want to imitate ducklings. I always do well with that lure when there's a few ducklings paddling around in the shallows.

I had to stop the car to let a mother mallard herd her brood of a dozen or so across the road the other day. If a car had come the other way round a bend at speed there's have been duckling mayhem!

Re: Ducklings
Suicide Duck's been a good lure for me; one of my most productive topwaters.
It's odd though how some do well on a lure and others don't get on with them.

Has anyone tried these? The YouTube video shows the action - looks like a pretty good 'wake bait' action to me!

They do look nice John.
Must say that I don't think a lure needs to look anything like a duckling to trigger a pike that's looking for them - most decent size crawlers will do it.

I think these details amuse us more than the pike? (Nothing wrong with that though).
