I don't know if he still makes the Carl but Mark Haughton has made me some excellent little 7 and 10g spinnerbaits in the past. He does things like a bigger head with a smaller hook and narrower gape and also forms a closed loop for connection. He also puts a small cable tie on the skirt and epoxies it so it doesn't get bitten off.

How small? There is a little 3.5g one on the AGM website. Nobody better to deal with.

I looked at Mark Houghton but looks like the websites closed.
Got some AGM ones but wanted something just a bit better

There was a guy on the LAS forum called Bassman John who makes some nice smaller spinnerbaits too.

Of the off the peg ones I have bought the small 3.5, 5, 7 and 10g booyah ones have been about the best quality.

Sadly bassmanjohn passed away a while a go but you're right, he made awesome spinnerbaits.
Kell's at lure factors are on a par.

The biggest problem with all spinnerbaits is the quality of the hooks. Whatever is on there, you're stuck with, and many are rank-barbed and bordering on blunt.

I made some small ones from some really good quality hooks (Solar Longshank carp hooks in size 1), only to find that they'd discontinued the bloody things when I went to order some more

They were just about perfect. Small barb, wickedly sharp, and strong enough to land any pike by-catch, without being excessively thick in the wire. If anyone has any ideas for something similar, I'm all ears. Every other hook I've considered has turned out to be too weak (mostly Aberdeens), or just generally poor quality, and normally equipped with a much larger barb than I would like.

Actually Steve now you've mentioned it I quite like using jig spinner frames with a jig head and a grub or shad on. At least that way you can change the weight easily and replace hooks.

Unfortunately they are a bit more difficult to get hold of in the UK. For larger sizes I have bent my own from 1.2mm think 316 stainless steel welding wire.

I like the concept. Peter Newman has written a couple of articles about them in Lure Angler mag.

Sadly, there's a lot of good stuff that isn't available over here, and the cost of international orders is very high right now

Its just the small frames which are tricky. Luckily i got quite a few from AGM years back with colorado and willow leaf blades in sizes from 0 to 6 but they are out of stock in all sizes now.

I think I'd be inclined to make the frame with just a twisted loop at the end and attach the jighead with a split ring for added security.

Lureparts.nl does spring temper stainless wire in coils and rods if you're making your own. I couldn't source the stuff in the UK at all. Spring temper rods, yes, but only in mild steel.

Oh dear - hope my stock lasts!

Think ABU are making clip on spinnerbaits arms now.
Plus one for Mark Kelly at Lurefactors. He has sensible hooks. He even made me some with Gamakatsu fine wire spinnerbait hooks I sourced myself. All his loops are silver soldered too to stop the ball bearing swivels going further on the cast.....

The States - any online bass fishing store will sell small spinner baits. I have quite a few ranging from just 1/4 oz and they're s**t hot perch lures in those smaller sizes. That's where I have sourced them from.

If the frame is open ended, i.e. not a closed loop (as bass anglers will tend to tie on the spinner bait with no clip or leader), then close the loop with a bit of silicon tubing.
