I always try and match the lure to the venue.

But in general if I was to have a boat lure day I’d choose 3 lures, and you won’t go far wrong with these.
Salmo slider
Line thru trout
Fox replicant (original)

These will cover most depth casting and if often have the salmo clipped up to one rod and the line thru another on a drop off drift.

here's a few ive done well on : ondex number 6 (had chub perch pike and trout over the years) salmo slider sinker, heddon zara mouse (brilliant weedless surface lure), fox jointed runt micro version, llanda piko spoon 30 g.

nothing really modern there but all been good catchers!

How do the Buster jerks perform in colored water? Are they as effective??
Never hold discussions with the monkey when the organ grinder is in the room.

I find that if the water is consistently coloured, the pike adapt and have no trouble tracking and hitting glidebaits. It's when fish are used to clear water that then becomes coloured that they really seem to struggle.

The rattle in the Buster may help a little in coloured water, but I like to have a rattling glidebait in the box as an option anyway.

Much as Steve has said. I did well casting them into the chocolate water at Blithfield on more than a few occasions - the rattle is what I am sure helps pike locate them a little better. Having said that, we were catching on trolled shad raps and depth raiders in coloured water. I've always been of the opinion that coloured water isn't as much of a hinderance as we think it is. It's the pike's world, so they adapt to that environment. Although it does make life harder for them when it is coloured up - algae blooms mind, forget it! A jerk bait wouldn't be my go to lure in coloured water though - I'd usually chuck a big spinnerbait as first choice of lure.

Me neither. Some years back we had an LAS fish in at a water that is normally pretty clear, but it had recently developed a lot of colour. I had a bunch of new jerkbaits to try, so I stuck with them all day. Eventually I got a hit, only for the fish to come off after a few seconds :hissy: The lads that did best on that day were fishing big soft plastics that moved a lot of water and fishing them slowly, but big spinnerbaits would have worked well too, I'm sure.

Lures I always have with me are replicants ie Fox , Savage gear & Castaic , Best spoons are Toby Magnums & Masterline and still love using Super shad raps trialled behind a boat.

Suick thriller 7"

It was absolutely useless when fished in its correct manner but I discovered that if the tail is straightened it can be used as a dog walking surface lure with a thrashing rather than gliding action.

Best surface lure I've ever used even if the hooks are too soft and it goes wherever it wants on the cast
Ha ha brilliant! I used to have this lure when I was a teenager and had a mare with it until using it in the manner you described. I'd forgotten all about that lure till I read this! It cast like a shopping bag filled with air.

Best lures, depends on the water and if bank or boat fishing but mine,

Rapala super shad raps. Caught hundreds on these over the years.

Fox replicants when boat fishing deeper water.

Big spinnerbaits on rivers, seem to outperform alot of other lures on moving water. Haven't had anywhere near as much success on stillwaters.
