Squirrely Burt.

Mind you, of the 26 (at last count) I have no two do the same thing! :dizzy:
Have you tried a miuras mouse lure?
No, I gave up lure fishing before they were invented! :laughs:
So you dont use the squirelly burt anymore? The miuras mouse is good because everything about it draws attention to it.
When I chuck lures these days they're usually Squirrlies, spinnerbaits or Jackpots, or a twitching minnow/crank.

From what I've seen of the mouse thing is it's got a curly tail. Curly tails catch pike. Miuras Mice catch anglers... :stir:
I bought a miuras mouse so I could learn how to construct one myself. Ive almost perfected it now. The ones available to the public are produced by CWC and have a twin tail. The ones produced by Maurizio carini have single curly tail. Ive actually spoken to him and he says single curly tails are better for moving water like rivers and twin tails are better for still water like lakes. A recent video I watched comparing all the types of tails substantiates this, twin tails caught the most and biggest fish when fishing in a lake

A standard weighted Squirrely Burt will do well on canals, although I'd probably use a floater I'd custom weighted to keep it fairly shallow.

Hook, line and sinker. :joker:
Squirrely burt is about the same price and you have 26 of those. Hook. Line and squirrely burt
I've had em twenty odd years and got them at trade. So :fu:
What is trade? Is that where people trade stuff on here?
Trade is the wholesale price. I used to import Musky Mania lures - I might even have been the first to sell them and Musky Innovations lures in the UK.

Wow. You certainly know your squirelly burts! Which one would you recommend for a beginner who fishes canals and lakes? Maybe when I get my mouse perfected Ill send you one to try and If you catch anything on it you can send me a squirelly burt in return!
A standard weighted Squirrely Burt will do well on canals, although I'd probably use a floater I'd custom weighted to keep it fairly shallow.
This is off topic but what do you use to transport your rods around. Im in need of something for this purpose

My lure rods just get chucked in the back of my car I'm afraid. Sometimes strapped together with rod bands if taking more than one.

You'll need a good head for heights though, and have to be good at climbing trees.

Its been there for 3 years, so the hooks might need changing

Abu Atom spoon because I caught 14 pike on one in about 2 hours in the 80s and it’s still my banker lure.

Hi, my first season Pike Fishing and generally I have done really well. Had 3 blanks over the winter but last weekend had 6 fish to 15lb and 5 the next day. The three most successful lures have been Mega S, SG Da'bush 42g and Westin Shad Teez 19cm. Only trying to catch larger pike and unsurpringly have had few small jacks. Did foul hook a perch that was smaller than my lure, but I guess that does'nt count. Cheers

Shakespearse Midi S in silver. Catches many a pike and perch.

But my all time favourite lure is a custom painted Mark Houghton lure.

Magna Strike 9” Grandma, if I ever encounter a 40lb+ it would be the icing on the cake if it put teeth marks on one of these. Best fish to date on one, 17lb :red: live in hope that’s what I say.

Nice. That sounds like a productive start. I’ve got a few 12 and 16cm shadteez. Caught a 15lb on a 12cm shadteez in smolt colour

If I had to pick five (which is hard to do!) I’d have to say:

Weighted Squirrely Burt
Slow fall Bassharasser
Buster Jerk
Papa Doc spoon
Westin Shad Teez 16cm

Not an easy question to answer. Water temp, water clarity and depth play a huge factor. Also of you are casting or trolling.

Something wirh a paddle tail are always good for either casting or trolling. Savage gear 3D are probably my favourite, or fox replicant. Loads of other manufacturers make very similar lures, they all catch pike. I like these lures in cold water too as they can have a slower retrieve.

When it comes to jerk baits, the salmo slider will always be the first I'll try. Buster jerk and jerkster are great lures too.

Flies are often over looked, as in files for spinning rods. I've had some big pike on them over the years.

Spoons and spinners will all catch pike too, although I do find they tend to attract more jacks where I fish.

I need some recommendations for good lures. What lure has caught you the most or biggest fish?
fox replicants in the biggest size have caught me some nice fish over the years boat and bank
80lb power pro and a good rod capable of casting these large rubbers
they have a big paddle tail they just have the right amount of movement and they just keep on catching
as regards to colours i like the translucent pattern and the green one they did and done a few on the fire tiger pattern .
i dont think its the colour really , its the big paddle that does the magic ......
