Trolling lure death trap!!
A warning in case anyone is thinking of buying this lure off Ebay ..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huge-trollin ... 1438.l2649
I bought 3 similar lures on here and they are fish killers !
The line ties on the vane are barely tacked on .
I lost one of mine while I was retrieving it , the line tie came off!
Luckily there was no fish on the end ....
I checked the other 2 I had and with a quarter turn with my fingers line ties also came off .
I messaged the seller to make him aware but he claimed it was nothing to him as he didn`t make them .
May not be the same seller , but the user name on here and Ebay are very similar .....

Re: Trolling lure death trap!!
Thats the problem with being interested in off the wall lures , bound to meet a couple of baduns !
I`d be happy with a 9.2 lber these times Steve.

aye thats 100% the same guy. and he's claiming he didnt make them ?
look at the orange one here hes trying to get a price on: viewtopic.php?f=58&t=43357&p=672088
matches the orange one sold here. 2nd pic on ebay has same damage(2 dents?):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huge-trollin ... SwvypgRQ9f
sorry this happened to you Roy. he should be giving you a refund for dodgy lures hes making.
it's alright though Jon Sykes says he's cool.

Re: Trolling lure death trap!!
To be fair, there are plenty of warning signs that the maker of the lure has no idea what he's doing.
1) The nose tie is way too high to work at all.
2) The lip ties were clearly not wired though and are also in a position that will not work anyway
3) The laughably undersized hooks
To make and sell a "custom lure" requires no experience or qualifications, so literally anyone can chuck something together and stick it on eBay. However, the clues were there that it would almost certainly be bin-worthy. I bet it was cheap though!

I bought 3 of the trolling lures here on the pit .........
The heads up is because he continues to sell them on ebay even after being told of the faulty line ties on the vanes .
These are fish killers !

Top quality stainless screw eyes are good enough for the makers of the very best lures in the world, and they are rock solid if the maker doesn't do something daft. I saw a pic recently of an irate musky angler with just a screw eye attached to his leader and he blamed screw eyes. Not the guy that made the lure, who I'll bet drilled pilot holes too large, allowing that screw eye to rip out. I've tested screw eyes in cedar and it's impossible to rip them out - they'll open up first.

Re: Trolling lure death trap!!
The only issue I have with the lure are the line ties on the vanes ........ and of course the response of the seller !
I tried pulling the hook eyes with a pliers , no issue there .
Lure itself is made from a dense wood , paint job is not bad and some nice glass eyes .

Installed correctly, they will open up before pulling out every time, and even that will take a huge amount of force. I epoxy a lot of mine to resist twisting, but it's really not necessary, particularly if multiple coats of epoxy coat them anyway.
However, all screw eyes are not equal. I bought some that I could bend with my fingers and they got binned, but they looked just like the proper stainless ones that I'd used before. As always, a cheap price is such for a reason...
