Paint stripper for lures .....

Post by royboy »

Following on from the Buster lure modification thread , What would ye reccommend as a paint stripper ?

I have some extra lures that I would like to repaint .
I would normally spray over the original pattern .

But there are a couple I`d like to clean back to the blank .........
Regular paint stripper , meths or what ?

Rgds , Pat

if plastic blank, especially polystyrene, acetone would just melt them.

A sharp bladed knife will scrape the finish off Burts, they are pure white underneath the skins and spray paint.
Worth removing and reglueing the eyes with something more resiliant while your at it.
Ive always found waterproof markers easier to use than paint.

Acetone is potent stuff, but needs immersion to do any real damage.

Wiping with an acetone soaked rag won't do any damage to the lure's plastic body

I use a Stanley knife blade hold it at 90 degrees to the lure and use it as a scraper works better than anything I’ve found on both plastic and wood baits

Sand it down until it’s reasonably smooth, then a coat maybe two of Etex, paint and Etex again.
