Never.
It will last longer than your reel.

If it gets furry, turn it round on the spool or cut it back. When the level gets low from cutting it back add some backing. When there's not enough left on the spool to fish with change it. As Mike Says, the reel will be knackered before that stage is reached!

And keep the bit thats left over to stitch on buttons, repair fishing clothing, seats and bags, or even nets.

I was out yesterday on the drains (brilliant day BTW) and the braid on the 5601 C3 I was using? 11 years and still trucking (50lb powerpro white). So, err, not very often is the simple answer to that.

i know its not the cheapest braid out there , but power pro for me is the best and it does not go flossy , well not yet anyway...
i use 20lb - 85lb and it really does last , there some crap braid out there ,power pro will outlast all the others so it really does pay dividends in the long run ....

I've recently loaded a few sea fishing reels up J braid, so far, very impressed.

I can't comment on longevity yet but I have no reason to believe it wont last as long as PP which I've had on my piking reels for several years!

How much is 500m of power pro ?
Just curious as to the price difference between that and the SeaKnight stuff I use ???

Got four different fixed spool setups for lure fishing, all 65lb Power Pro, used a lot through winter, all loaded in February 08 and still going strong, all have been reversed on the spools, best braid out there in my opinion.
