Big Lure Trebles

Post by Steve Dennington »

I normally go with Eagle Claw 974s in a 5/0, but they're unavailable right now, or so it seems  What else is available for very large lures?

I'm looking for something to fit to this lure that I made (10" body and weighing in at a little over 12oz). It's fitted with 3/0 ST36 trebles in the pic, but they look comically small!

8/0, 10/0... he's pike fishing, not shark fishing. Helpful as ever Agent J

BKK 4/0 Spears are what I now use on my larger lures - quite a wide gape in that pattern - example here fitted to a 9" Glide Bait...

Thanks Mike. As Mark said, the bigger ones are a bit too big, even for this lure. 5/0 974s are just right, but nobody seems to have them at the minute.

Cheers Mark.

I was looking at those on Baz Robinson's site and I think I'll give them a go. Even if they're the wrong size for the monster tailbait, they'll certainly be a good fit for other larger lures that I make.

It's the width of this lure that is the main issue - it's 30mm across the back. I've tried making slimmer versions, but the action just wasn't as good. More tinkering required, I think...

Cheers Dave. Unfortunately that's the same size and shank length as the 3/0 Owners. The 5/0 Eagle Claw is also about the same gape, but the longer shank helps prevent the bulky body from masking the hooks.

I checked your site first, Dave, and there was nothing bigger than a 3/0

I'll have 100 then, please. I'll PM you.

I took a load of EC trbles off when I got low and knew I couldn't get them any longer. But hadn't realised I still had lots of 5/0s!

I'll bag 100 up and work out a price.
