Post by Pikerd74 »

Thanks Ken, I must have bought that from the friendly fisherman at some point lol. I’ve got way too many lures 😁

This style of jerk has gone out of fashion, and the gliding shad type has kind of taken over. I'm surprised by this because the Flipper type shape and weighting gives a bit of glide but more importantly the belly roll or "flip" that is completely different to the shad glider action. I have a few Mark Houghton made for me in the 80s or 90s and they are still catching very effectively every season.

Exactly what I've done over the years,
I'm gonna dig them out and give them another go.

Can't be, the paint is still on it and it's not split in two :laughs:

The pike often don’t care if the paint chipped off a lure, I’ve caught on a fox rooter where you could no longer tell which colour it was originally……totally chewed up and still catching.

I’ve got a few of these I purchased on eBay a few years ago. Excuse my ignorance :laughs: Anyone care to share what is the best way to retrieve them to make them productive?

Hats of to Mark Houghton must be a fair few Pike netted after falling to his artwork over the Last 30-40 years

I don't have these exact ones, but Mark's that he made for me sink slowly and short jerks and taps get them to dart forwards and flip on their side with great belly flash as they glide out a little. Slower or medium retrieve speeds works best for the ones I have.

Thanks Andrew.
I guess I’ve been working them too hard/fast.
They would either be direct with little movement, or run very shallow.
Some were better than others and They do flip/flash well. A couple caught better than the fox Dolphins I have.
