Get Reel

Post by Crispy PAC » Wed May 15 2019 20:59

As start of a major. Clear -Out / thinning out of the tackle addiction, recently sold 3 4500b’s and a couple of 6501’s, so tonight I thought i’d do a “stock take” and frightened myself somewhat. 41 coarse reels ( that I could put my hands on)!
23 Baitrunners
9 fixed spool (non BR)
5 Multiplers
4 Closed Face.

Broke down further as
22 Shimano
6 Okuma
5 Abu
3 Daiwa
1 Quantum
4 Other

This does not include sea or fly reels!!!
How many does one need!!

I have about 12 baitrunners and 5 fixed spool non-baitrunners. They're mostly quite battered and well used so I've never thought about selling any. I'm hoping to pass them on to the kids if they get interested in fishing. I have one who already does so she's getting the use of a couple of old 6000 res.

Sincere thank for posting your list, now I dont feel so bad.

Ones needs;
Say one reel for each discipline and an infinate number of spools to cater for the various lines and different species and presentations.
Spare spools cost almost as much a reel so it makes sense to buy the whole reel and keep the body as a spare.
Atleast that is how I explain it.

Fear same here.
Collection increases with time, but favoured 10% probably get 90% of use.
Same with lures....

And I thought I had a lot of reels!

Maybe I should consider getting some more 🤔

Most of my baitrumners are reasonably old, the newest being Shimmy XTEA
But they are like new as I really look after all my stiff.

Me neither. If I counted the reels I'd start to consider how much I've spent on them, and that's not a road I want to go down!!

I've been fishing for just under a year now:

2 baitrunners (Daiwa)
6 fixed spool (1 shimano, 2 Okuma, 3 Daiwa)
4 baitcasters (1 Abu Garcia REVO4 SX, 1 Daiwa Tatula, 1 Pflueger Supreme XT, 1 cheapo Kastking)

1 fly, but not learnt how to use it yet. Something I've got to get round to

I've got to slow down as getting expensive lol

If you're really lucky you might be able to make one good one out of that lot!

I hate the damn things, give me a centerpin or something like my rareniums and I'm very happy, give me a closed face and I'll probably just go home!

There a bit like Marmite, I love them but they can be a royal pain in the butt, when line gets behind the spool which it always does.
Need a deep spool fixed spool reel with a shortened leg so the spool edge can be reached with first finger comfortably or centrepin.

I've never experienced line getting trapped behind the spool. Would this be with early models of closed face reels?

I have 2 1044's and they have the replaceable pipe cleaner around the spool plus I've fitted an extra pick up pin to mine.

Regards

Martin

I was given a ABU 506.
I tried it once!

On rivers a centrepin's is bliss, so pleasurable catching is just a bonus
