Big pit reels

Post by magill2010 » Thu Sep 10 2020 18:55

Hi lads ,
I’m looking to get 3 big pit reels , I’ve been looking at the Daiwa emblems 5000t’s but just wondered if anyone has any other suggestions? Don’t want to be spending the earth just want a half decent reel that can carry 200 -250 yards of 40 odd lb braid .happy to buy second hand . I’ll just be using them on a res to boat out deadbaits . Any suggestions would be great ? Cheers in advance

You won't go far wrong with daiwa for big pit reels,I've been using emcast evo's for many years now,at the time they were reasonably priced and pretty much bombproof

Love my bio xs. For £30 you can get a Mitchell avo spod which are surprisingly good.

You can't go wrong with Emblems, for the money, they are probably the best you can buy. Shimano big pits have lost their way in recent years - quality is down and just take the flimsy bail arms they seem to be fitting now, easily bent out of shape when strapped to a sling. I've got Castizm QD's and the latest Basia SCW's, but also have three Emblems - I use them for spod and marker work, but also use them for pike fishing, when the more robust nature, no frills aspect is better suited to pike fishing.

Daiwa Tournament 5000 are a good reel with a nice clutch. Daiwa Emblems are a good reel at a lower price pint. Both are pretty much bulletproof.

Okuma Trio-Rex or the newer T-Rex.
As cheap new as some 'better' reels are second-hand.
