im not new to pike fishing but wanted to know oyur thoughts
everytime i use a roving float setup i always use an uptrace live or dead baits always use them
but ive been looking through some mags and mick browns books and either im reading them wrong or they dont use them
when should i use one ?

With a live bait, I use one, just make sure it's longer than your trace.
I used to have them on my float rods all the time but it's been a while since I live baited.

i live bait down the canal alot but water aint that deep and like i said books ive seen dont seem to use them

Got to also keep in mind Mick is a really good angler and will know what situations will warrant an uptrace. was the rig without the uptrace perhaps intended for dead baits?
The only time i personally would use one is with live bait, no compromises. And perhaps a turbulent river with dead baits.

cheers i wasnt knocking mick as he was the one who got me interested in pike fishing watching his dvds but just wanted to know how come some of his rigs in book dont have them
