Massive shout out to Flipflopjoe, came to my rescue and showed me the ropes. Really nice guy with a load of experience that he was happy to share. Picked up loads of useful tips which has boosted my confidence no end. He is a credit to the forum and to the pike fishing community in general.
I would encourage any newcomers to reach out for support in your area before rushing to the bank with (as in my case) all the gear an no idea.
