Squid?

Post by LlyrEdwards »

Hello all,

As I also sea fish I have a considerable amount of squid in the freezer at all times.

Has anyone tried it for pike with any success ?

Thanks,

Tom

I recall an article by Trevor Housby extolling the virtues. I've always liked it for sea fishing and it is a reputable cat bait.
Cyprinus likes it in various extracts too but it's not something I would automatically choose over macks or sardines..
Clem Stephens.

Yep and it stays on the hook pretty damn well too. Biggest issue I had was the carp kept taking it! Although I did also catch a fair few carp on roach lives and deads 😂

Sounds like I’d be better off keeping it for the cod and bass

Caught plenty of catfish with it. No joy with pike, but only tried it a couple of times as an experiment. I see no reason it won't work, given I've seen pike caught on static boilies! But, with other baits being proven catchers, why would you use it

Fair point  Just thinking it through, when I've used it for cats, on waters where pike are also present, not once have I had a pike. You should get the topic moved to the relevant forum, as a few more catfish guys might have had different experiences with it

Tried squid 20 odd years ago on 2 or 3 pike waters, no pike and I thought it would work.

Back in the day I used calamary squid and did catch on it, I remembered this and about 3 years ago I tried some on my local, I just dropped it in the edge ,in 6ft of clear water and saw a small pike come up and nose it about 3 times and then he took it

A strip of squid on a jig hook and fished like a lure has worked for me, also mackerel strip in the same fashion.

Cheers
