First Zed, and I’m hooked!
After voyeuring for a while I thought it’s time to get more involved, but hadn’t really had anything to report with the rivers around me (Lincoln/Newark) all in flood.
Went to Rutland with my new secondhand echo sounder, what a game changer! There’s 4 of us who regularly fish all over together and we’d previously done 3 days on R and 1 on Grafham with no joy watching those with finders smash it up. We needed some of that, so bought 2 cheap secondhand ones.
Well, first time out with the finders and managing to track the fish holding features out made all the difference. The other 3 had about 10 small zander (1-2lb) of what I hear is the average size for there. I struggled all day, but on the last cast BANG, a solid fish and a real beauty. I was over the moon and I think they heard my cheer as he went in the net on the opposite bank.
Hooked now, can’t wait to get back on Grafham and see if I can get one from there too.

Cracking Zed that Karl!
Not tried for them anywhere near enough myself over the years, just the odd very welcome accidental/ hopeful catch while piking. Might have to change that!

Re: First Zed, and I’m hooked!
Thanks all. They always taste sweeter (metaphorically, although I do hear they do make good eating, if that’s your thing) when you have to work for them. Perversely I am pleased it took a few trips, and then all came good on the last cast, as the boys were starting the take the mickey on the day that I hadn’t caught one and all 3 of them had! How I had the last laugh....
