It must be a Southern thing then, we did call the little ones bootlaces, there were a right pest at one time.

When I was into junior match fishing they were known as 'grinners'. Because of the shape of their mouths I guess!

A few have mentioned snigging in the colder, winter. In general, are they warmer water fish. Is it too early to start fishing for them now or early summer, the preferred time ?

Some of my mates fish for eels all year round. One year I started in April warm during the day but freezing. during the night we even had the a live bucket frozen over. But still caught eels all came during the day as well. I wouldn't be fishing waters that's got a low stock or eels never been caught from here waters .Once things get to normal I be out after eels. Rods already made up.... Good luck ps hate the word Sniging

I'm sat by a pit with a couple of Rudd heads out. Had a dropped run in daylight but nothing else since. Going to give it until around midnight.

Did you chop it up and use carp strips for bait? :laughs:

Much as I'm tempted I'll be waiting a while before I start eeling now it's turned cooler again.

I had previously despatched and cut a small roach up for bait
I did say something along the lines of her carp could keep me in baits for a while
The maternal defense snarl made me change my mind :laughs:

Was a bit nippy later on, I was dithering.
Next week looks like temps will be better

I don't like to start eeling too soon as I've caught most of my bigger ones late in the summer and I can get burned out dealing with bootlace frustrations early on! But this year there'll be no agricultural shows or sheep dog trials to occupy my spare time.

Lucky b*****d!

I think living near a tidal river accounts for the bootlaces around these parts.
