First Zed

Post by Steve D »

Ive had a few goes at trying to catch a Zed from a local tidal river without success and after having one spit the hooks out at me while trying to net it i decided to knock it all on the head for abit as the eels were also driving me mad!

Anyway i decided to have a couple of hours on a new stretch of the river yesterday after work and at last light the tip pulled round and i had my first Zed in the net

I didnt get a self take as when unhooking it i noticed someone else's trace and a pair of trebles in her mouth and one of them was deeped hooked  Luckly i managed to free the rig and wanted to get her straight back in the water so just took a quick release shot..

Cheers Danny, the bottom treble i could hardly see but luckily they were barbless so made it easier to free from the gut, tbh it looked like someone had caught the fish and couldnt unhook it so just cut the line above the swivel!

Still ill never know for sure.

Knowing is not really that important.....more important is that you removed it. :worthy:

Nice one Mission, well in bud

It's through reading posts like yours on the Pit that I've learned to check any predators I catch for lost tackle and remove it before release. Sadly, I feel, not all novices learn to do this!

Again, well done

Thats a cracking Zander mate and looks nicely conditioned despite trailing someone else's hooks, nice one for getting them out.

Me neither. well not off the river anyway. Had a concerted effort end of last week, two nights, but still blanked in areas that produced this time last year. Just don't know what's going on
