Same thing on the Severn over the last two or three years, certainly with deadbaits anyway. One or two nods on the rod tip and then nothing, yet a few years ago they'd pull line out of clips etc. Definitely not pressure.

You'll have to try touch legering

at the moment the tidal is literally heaving with small fish, minnows have appeared in huge shoals, the shallows are full of them and small silvers

Very influenced by moon-phase. 1/2/3/4 quarter feeding can be very very different.

Very settled weather this year = moon phase a bigger influence imo

Seems to be the case throughout the system Kev, i was watching perch coming out the rocks the other day and nailing the minnows, only small perch but twas good to watch.

its certainly not a bad thing that the zeds are more finicky..

Fished 6pm -11pm on the Middle last night, bloody freezing, had full winters on. Had 2 zeds and a pike, water's still warm.

As has already been said, all the rivers i fish are teeming with fry and the predators i've seen have certainly been taking advantage. Should be some good weight gain by the end of the winter

I was out myself last night for another short session after work, its was certainly nippy that's for sure

Managed one Zed at 9lb 4oz, as it turns out its my old friend from the other week that i removed the hooks from its gut!

Nice to see its doing well but she seems abit of a mug bless her :red:

Time to move on from that area me thinks..

The complete bitch, how can I forgive her :hump:

Only fished big rivers for zds off the bank a couple of times and I must admit it feels rather clumsy after fishing bobbins etc
I have fished for barbel a lot on such rivers but dont like fishing for zds that way.
Are there any ways of bringing a bit more finesse to the game such as upstreaming with a balanced lead or the other ex stream self hooking?

Cheers Alan
