Re: Bite Indication Perch
When worm and live minnow fishing I use very light bobbins on a long drop.

I was supposed to be going Perch fishing yesterday but the river was in s**t state! It's been a while.

I use the gardner nano bugs with a long drop, not on the floor but a few inches away from hanging loose

Jason Skilton PAC wrote:Not huge issues, I get the odd dropped bait but they are often very fast stuttery takes which I am sure is small perch having a go at the bait as if I leave it out for another 5-10 minutes the wee buggers normally have another go I tend to get more paranoid about my rig being low resistance now as I am happy with this as a bite indication systemGavin P wrote:.....do you have any issues wh perch and residence?Jason Skilton PAC wrote:If I can get away with them just on the chords I will but if there is a bit of wind/tow then I might add a weight or two just to stop the bobbin flying about a huge amountGavin P wrote:Been using them .......have u been using the additional weight or leave them the lightest they can be....I use the gardner nano bugs with a long drop, not on the floor but a few inches away from hanging loose

Re: Bite Indication Perch
I dont think you have to give perch much line before you can strike so closed bail arms for me.
Watching perch feed in tanks, they move very little after engulfing the bait which is why deep hooking can be a problem and so a sensitive set up should be used. The fact (and I use that word loosely) they dont move much initially after taking the bait could be a reason for them to be known as resistance shy but to be honest its not something I have had a problem with.
I think using a sensitive set up with a bobbin often made of tin foil, a modest sized bait with a quick strike will see most takes converted.
One last thing is that I now do not hook in the lips or nostrils but prefer to hook a small treble near the dorsal for the same reasons as when we pike fish, it reduces deep hooking
Cheers Alan

Re: Bite Indication Perch
If I am fishing on Front alarms (normally at range with feeder tactics and bigger baits, worm/prawn) I use the Korum Bobbins on a long drop closed bale arm and sit on the rods. Strike once the take is in full swing.
Close in I will use a Waggler.
Live baits are normally presented under a float.

Re: Bite Indication Perch
Korum bite indicator kit, awesome bit of kit, can even set up as a rear drop off if your that way inclined, but again long cord in conjunction with a shimmy baby baitrunner and hit em quick.
