I'm thinking of doing some catting again, but I can't find the hooks I put away 20 odd years ago. I used to use Cox and Rawle Uptide Etras for lives and deads, but they've 'improved' them and I'm not sure what they're like.
I know Eagle Wave shape hooks are popular these days, but I can't see what advantage they have over a 'proper' shape hook.
Thoughts?

It's the old story - shift production offshore to cut costs and call it an upgrade.

Re: Hooks for catting
Personally I do not like the Eagle waves but other do use them successfully.
Used circle hooks a lot for catfishing and had nearly 100% hook ups.
Use Gold Label BP hooks I think they were called and Owner SSW when I wanted to present a bait off bottom.

Dave I too used to use the uptide extras many moons ago for a top hook when aherm liveying, the new ones are definitely crap but I can recommend Solar stronghold long shank,(altho theyre not long shanked)
They are a traditional shape and very strong imo

Re: Hooks for catting
Been using esp raptors this season for cats and cant fault them other than they could do with going a size or two bigger...that said am happy to use size 1 or 2's for them generally
