The theme of the May ZAC mini convention will be 50 years of zander fishing in the UK. The day will be devoted to zander fishing in the UK which really got started in 1968. There will of course be a mention of the introduction of zander and the fishing at Woburn and Claydon prior to 1968 but mostly it will be 1968 to the present day.

Just a long shot here. Zander were first introduced into the Shoulder of Mutton Pond at Woburn in 1878. They were subsequently moved around to various places including Claydon in 1950. Anyone know if they are still present in Claydon or any other places nearby that has them?

1878?? Holy smoke I had no idea they had been over here that long!

I thought I read somewhere that the Woburn fish were a slightly different strain to the zander in our rivers, but I might be imagining that.

I am going to get along to the mini convention this year if work allows it.

Zander were still present in Claydon Middle Lake in 2008 - http://www.lbac.co.uk/gallery.htm

I caught a small one there, on a sprat head, in the '90s. :smile:

thanks for that Dave. Mind you the kid with the 19 looks a bit suspect. Wat the Woburn zander are the ancestors of our present stock. Another stocking from sweden in 1960 to a pit at Mepal appears to have never moved.

Thanks Neville. You have me scratching my head now though. I thought I knew Mepal fairly well. I cannot think of any pit there that ever held zeds?

Off the 142 Nev? I'd heard rumours that it had had an ancient stocking of zander but I've never heard of anyone actually catching one :scratch:

Myfirst trips to the fens were on pringles,straight from work on a friday night,just me and me dogs,happy days.the only other person i saw was mark barrett and his mates,i never had f**k all out of theireither,think i remember mark buying me some chips.

I have disabled pms Delboy.

We are not talking Borrow pit are we? Opposite the bridge? ( Pearl Bridge I think I have heard it called) The only other pits around there that I am aware of are the Pits on Block Fen and Chatteris Aqua Sports on tother side of road.

Not them ones boy,fuckme when you turn off the road to drive down to pringles it is right behind you,i mean just a few yards,if you are coming from block fen instead of turning left for pringles turn right and its right there,it aint very big.,forgot the name of it

I thought it was Pingles Pit not Pringles which are a type of crisp
