I caught a 3-4lb rainbow on the Test at Timsbury, using a jointed Abu plug. Do I win a paper hat?

had a double figure rainbow smash a salmo slider once :afraid: launched itself out the water and threw the lure.

Not all the ferox trout have those big hooked Jaws but it doesn't stop them nailing baits 8" or more. When they go on the feed they can be incredibly greedy creatures.

By the way. The trout I'm (Auld c**t) holding was bigger than the trout Connor is holding but was lighter. My fish was a older fish which was probably a good bit heavier at some point. We find as they get older and begin to lose condition they get thinner from the tail.

Yes Alan, completely agree, with a head like that it will have been a hell of a fight when it was in its prime.

Will.

The only reason most trout fisheries are 'fly only' is that you would quickly empty the place using spinners or small lures.

A mate of mine was allowed to lure fish a trout club stretch of the Derwent close to me, as the club wanted to move any pike a few miles downstream. The rainbows hammered his lures all day long and he didn't catch a single pike! (Serves him right! :laughs: ).

There isn't a fish swimming that isn't predatory given the opportunity.
