I'm not even sure there are eel in the water Mike, and I doubt I will get anything decent but you never know!
you dont see anglers fishing for eels these days , which could be good news for us , as there could be a monster out there untouched and never seen a hook
like mike says , you forget how powerful they can be , even a 5lb fish tests your gear to the full

Certainly I never knew,
No one had ever eel fished the water I mentioned and no eels had ever been reported caught. I told a member of the Angulia Club and he fished the same area catching over 30 in two nights but nothing very serious.
During a pumping operation on another water a headless body of an eel was found in the basket, it weighed around 9lbs.

Theres a little very overgrown drain off the A17 i intend to fish.
Rammed to the top with weed as a rule.
Retired eel netter told me he used to drop his nets in now and then every few years.
He was after the tench....but he says he always got some big eels some over 10lbs

you never know kev , i have been out today to a nice pit covered in lillys about 3 acres...... 3 rods out , worm , rudd head, maggots , not a sniff pal
but theres a inlet and outlet so must be some in there , or maybe the bigger eels can leave that water to spawn elswhere .....
does anybody know what age and average size...before they decide to spawn and make that long journey .....

From the days of NASA and Specialist Angler I seem to remember an eel around 5+ was aged to be +60years old, I will try and find the article.

If I was after a monster I would target the canals and try anywhere, everything points to them holding a few seriously big specimens.

For every pound a Eel weighs they’re about 10 years of age
And they say that the big Eels are big because they have not had the urge to spawn .
