Post by stubbojo »

been out today again in the pursuit of a big eel , 2 rods out to ledgered very small rudd baits on the dyson and normal ledger
and a float rod for the bait , the rudd where hanging themselves today probably had over a 100 fish no matter how many maggots i put on they took it...... 7 maggots where there limit

not a sniff to the eel rods .........pisisted down all day long .......dohh :rasp:

I'm waiting for the nights to warm up before getting my eel rods out. I don't like starting too early anyway as I can burn myself out before late summer/early autumn which is when I have caught my best eels.

Too early for big eels. Wait until the nights are much warmer and humid!

Your lucky, a place I fish a single maggot and mash&maggot feeder is the method for the eels and they're not bootlaces either.
We've all tried deads but apart for the odd exception they always result in a carp.
Having watched eels feed in summer they are always grubbing around the weeds so small baits makes sense.
Maybe worth you ledgering a maggot beneath your float rig, you have nothing to loose as its clearly not catching where it is.

Bass and sand flea grubs

funny you say that my mate turned up on the session , and said the same thing , maggot feeder approach could work on there , but the dreaded rudd rule on there
never fished a pond with so many rudd in all my years ,you cant get a maggot down to the bottom on a float rig set up ...

Have you tried dead maggots at night? Try a bunch of those on the hook. Silvers 'normally' leave the dead ones alone, the Eels love them when I'm fishing for Tench!...............

I've caught plenty of eels in day light. As a kid we used to deliberately fish for them on the canal on hot summer afternoons, but these days I prefer fishing evening to late when it's hot. As much for my comfort as anything. And I like fishing at night.

Lots of action last night but all from sub 1lb stuff judging by the four I landed. The little ones are more trouble on the bank than bigger ones! Run out of worms now so won' be going tonight.

been out today to a big gravel pit for sniggs again
fished 2 rods with multiple worms baits simple running ledger set up.... as the ground was clear of weed
not a sniff or beep for 6 hours , oddly enough no bites at all off the usual..... perch, roach, rudd , carp , tench , sod all wanted them baits today
had some big feeders on for the first hour to add some ground bait and maggots to the swim .......never made a difference to the out come ....a nice big fat blanker
