Perch fishing in commercials

Post by whitey79 »

Having never done this going in a couple of weeks for a weekend
So bait prawns and lobworm feeding reds to attract the bait fish
One rod on float one ledgered running rig might accidentally hook a small roach on this and not notice it on
Anyone got any little hints or tips along the way for commercial fishing for perch apart from don’t do it rivers are better 😜

Don’t ignore margins or any structure( platforms etc)I had a few very successful sessions on a little commercial using tactics you described, had lots of twos and odd three, majority were right under the rod tip

Bizarrely, when I had a brief commercial perch campaign I found the best way to avoid the carp and mainly catch perch was to fish feeder with red maggots on the hook.

I'm not sure what the rules are on your water but there are two methods I find by far the most productive. My first choice would be a free roving live bait and second lure fishing, specifically with a ned rig.

Can’t officially use lives and I think lures are banned maximum hook size barbless 10
I suppose I can name it as no pike in it and a commercial venue

I have the same rules to contend with on my local commercial. No big hooks no lures etc etc.

I’d fish maggots on a waggler (and be pestered by roach etc) or sit it out with prawns and be pestered by carp !

Dont ignore the corners..

They might not play in daylight but they will once the light goes.
Size 4 Kamasan 983 with a small baitband on the hair, baitband on the small end of the prawn to cut down on tangles..

Good luck

A sea angling trick that would be worth trying is a maggot baited hook attached to the bend of a hook big enough to hold the Perch.

Maggot or lob at distance has proved the most successful at Tring along with a spod for get extra feed out accurately. 5.14 is the largest I know of.

Beware carp will attacking and eat small fish, so will big eels.

Prawn has been one of the best carp baits I've used when perch fishing.
