Hi Muskie, I have on a couple of occasions had to use braid (fishery rules) when putting a pike bait a long way. I used 65lb Whiplash leader to a 50lb Whiplash mainline, like you I used a Mahin knot to join the braids but instead of an overhand knot on the leader I do a double overhand loop and tease it into a figure of eight and pass the mainline through both loops, then whip down and up and return the tag end through the two loops, this I find is a slightly stronger knot and the braid cannot pull through when under extreme pressure. At the end of the leader I tie a Bimini Twist loop which I find retains about 90% of the leaders strength, hope that makes sense ?
