I won't spoil it for anyone else (Steve  )....

Bloody hell I would have secured it in the net and gone back to the car for my phone.

It would have been worth a few scratches..

Really well written Jake..

A great read and I am glad the scales never revealed the true weight, that would have ruined the mystery of the huge fish to put a figure on it (for me anyway) ........ no piccys, no weight just my own imagination taking me to the same spot for the occasion ..... a great piece

Out of interest jake how long ago was this ? Isn't the perch record 6 something ? I think the same fella who had that 42 in the other thread holds it ??

The record is 6lb 3oz, Tom. And I hadn't noticed but you're right....it is Neil Stephen (who got the 42) who is the joint record holder as two different fish went 6lb 3oz.

I tried to imagine how a 7lber might come about, and where from. I figured it would be a quiet venue with a lot of crayfish to bulk it up. Then I imagined how someone would feel if they caught that fish but had no proof and didn't want to go back (or others to go back) and put it through the stress of catching it again so just had to keep the ground-shaking event quiet.

A bit like sh@gging Kylie Minogue but not being able to tell your mates at the pub :laughs: :laughs:

I think a genuine 7lber will happen soon. If either of the 6lb 3oz record fish are still alive they're potentially that size now....I think Neil got his about 4 years ago?
