Skate on a kayak

Post by alexthefisherman »

Had a new PB Flapper Skate on the kayak at the weekend, estimated about 120-130lbs, in 60 foot of water. The raw power of these fish has to be seen to be believed!

Impressive.
Both the fish and your rigging of the boat.
Q; The wire loop on the port side, does that go through your life jacket auto mechanism?

Assuming its you in the pic.

we don't wear auto lifejackets, they'd make it impossible to get back into the kayak if we got flipped. Its actually the leash on my camera, tangled around my paddle leash. mad rush to take photos as the fish came up!

Good info on the reason you don't wear an auto life jacket, I will now buy a PDF for my Kayak. Cheers

Nice fish .. kayaks are great things for inexpensive fishing, and open up so many options to fishing

It's really revolutionised my fishing, particularly at sea. Shore fishing is a poor second best for most species, bar ballan wrasse. Next challenge is a stingray and a blue shark
