All recreational anglers must catch and release only for the whole of 2018.

This really is a joke, no doubt they will try to enforce it Bob and some poor buggers will be prosecuted in high profile and well publicised cases to set an example to others, everyone knows the exploitation is down to the commercial guys, as always it seems to be us who are restricted.
Does anyone know what restrictions if any have been imposed on the commercial netting ?

I know the lads that fish for them locally will still be having it for their tea  They've been around here aplenty for the past few years and I've quite fancied a bash at them myself, but like a lot of other things, I never get round to it.

Still under review I believe with the rules to be finalised in March/April 2018. Would be a bloody shame if it did turn out to be catch and release only.

A decision has been made...

Don't think I'll bother getting the bass rods out this year.

I thought they would just revert back to last years rules ... am shocked really , how the hell have anglers ended up at this result in only a few years !

Many Charter boats are going to be f00ked now ... and how long before other fish are restricted

The commercial boats are also being restricted , the biggest bass catcher near my boat has craned his boat out , stripped it and put it up for sale ... he has gone from no quota at all to just over a ton a month of bass allowance in the same time , he told me its finished his bass fishing , he could get double or treble that in one night with his miles of gill nets previously when he found the shoals .

As you know Alex, it's been exactly that and the UK "wide open" Bass Fishery (to the EU) that has decimated the Bass Biomass. Almost "too little too late" in a way, restrictions being enforced, only after the previous year after year of continuing stocks depletion.

doesn't Magna Carta give you the right to fish from the shore and take fish?

True , but they cant fish February or March ... don't get me wrong , I am glad they have finally been restricted , but anglers have had to take a massive hit as well
