Carpers only catch eight pound plus tench (not to mention ten pound bream and five pound eels). Not sure how they weigh them when they shake them off to save getting their net slimy though.

I enjoy my carp fishing but I still prefer to catch decent tench (6-7lb is decent locally) than decent carp.

Nobody using boiled baits for tench? I catch more bigger tench fishing for carp than I catch fishing for tench. 10-12 mm spicy fish boilies have to be my favourite bait for tench. Also nice in a particle-pellet mix.

always found fishy boilies better than fruity ones for tench......
spicy shrimp and prawn a firm favourite, and they got rereleased last year...
not my first line of attack but always in the bag

Has anyone tried red dari seed as groundbait for tench? A carper, Frank Warwick tried it and found it to be massively successful and a mate/relative of his won a big money prize when he tried it in a match. Makes a change to hemp I suppose.

4lb is average up here. Doesnt p**s me off but it is interesting the size differences even in ireland they are bigger. I wonder why. I thought irelands climate was closer to scotlands than englands so whats the deal

I bought a sack of red dari last year. 15kg.
cant say it was the promised land of baits but its a nice sized particle, still have some left and will continue using it.
I also picked up on that article many years ago, planted the seed in my head at the time lol

Aye 4lb is about average,Iโ€™ve had them to 9lb2oz though that generation have died of on the water I fish,
I had a nice male last year a 5lb10oz which gave me a right scrap!and a 7lb female probably as big as they go the now

Had this one last night. Not best photo my mate took it. Cant grumble he did bring me a sausage supper.

First one this year. I am surprised i never seen much more activity last night though one bite for one fish. Short session but still a bit unusual for this place.

started with a warm up session with some handy smaller tench and had a few. nice to get the rigs sorted, find out what you need to replenish and generally get you eye in.
we had ten or so like peas in a pod, all around 3lb
Image

moved on a new water at weekend, hoping it could do some thing big. one bite one fish which is usually the crack on these sort of waters unless they are going crazy and you might catch three lol
Image
6lb4oz. a decent irish fish.... fingers crossed there's bigger
