Post by nigel savage »

This years fry have hatched at Rutland, with the usual predators feeding on them, however protein, is protein, the last few days we have had reports of the reservoirs Bream are now going round mopping them up.

Nothing too extraordinary. Carp and bream are seasonal fry feeders - I've got an old fishing book that actually suggests spinning for bream with a fly spoon during the early season!

I've also seen carp regurgitating dozens of carp fry in the landing net. They'll both take a deadbait too.

Have heard many reports of bream caught on Mepps etc, never had one myself but my friend hand a nice 4lb specimen a few years back on a lure.

I fished a water where you couldn't use sardines because the bream mauled them to bits. I did manage to catch one though!

Peter Stone wrote about seeing a bleak porpoise across the Thames pursued by a very large bream which caught and ate the prey.
