Re: Home Made Weed Rakes !
I just use a 2lb Aquapedo boat weight.
I chuck it straight out keeping to a tight 6ft ish area, let it settle in the leaves and silt, then slowly drag it back speeding up as it nears the bank.
This method releases clouds of bubbles, leaves and fine silt and clears out the odd twig or two.
I make around twenty throws, then cati in one pouch full of bait, tackle up and get bites almost instantly.
Simple and effective and its never failed me yet.

Simply tie 2 garden rake heads together back to back so the prongs are opposing and connect to a length of blue nylon rope. It will pull out silk weed and Canadian pond weed as well as raking up the silt.
Don't forget to pile the raked out materials at the waters edge to let the shrimps etc get back in the water.

Garden rake head job I made back in the early 80s, works fine for most swims to around 8ft deep, easy to throw out and keep the rope low as possible on retrieve.

Bigger and heavier, made from 1" / 25mm square mild steel tube, 4" /100mm nails.
Mucho care needed when throwing.
Attachment both ends so if you can get on the opposite bank, or anchor a boat, two folk can clear a large area quite quickly and no throwing required.
Not much use on lillies.
For lillies I find a small lightweight cutter works best, throw it out and let it sink out in clear water if you can, then retrieve in short sharp jerks.
The aim is to cut the stalks not the huge thick roots, kneel down if you can and keep the rope angle low and the cutter sharp.
What ever you use, just like anchors, make sure the other end of the rope, your end, is fixed to something before you give it the big heave.
Another sodding T shirt.

I use both a mixture of specially made rakes from Unquie Welding Services and ones that I make from angle iron and bolts.
https://www.uniqueweldingservices.co.uk/shop
The ones I make (will get a photo up later) are adjustable so that I can be more selective about the grovels or channels I'm raking.....I prefer the leave some weed in an spot as to make it look less man made.

Also the Stealth Reed Cutter, not used yet.
Both really well made.

Re: Home Made Weed Rakes !
I wanted a small rake to clear a small channel for float fishing for tench. I was going to buy a rake head and chop it in half and fix that back to back. Before I buy anything I always have a think if I can make something without spending much and remembered I had a knackered electric hedge trimmer waiting for a trip to the recycling centre so took the grinder to it! I think it will work.
It's about 8 inches long and won't take up much room in the bag.

I used to use an old bicycle wheel with barbed wire woven through the spokes. Worked really well on my local res for Canadian pond weed.

I done it a lot on the canal and prebaiting. Wasn't taking any chances.

Oh well, there's at least one more to be found then.
I keep a quite a few items of tackle and gear scattered about the bottom of various waters around the UK & Eire.
And I think I know and remember where most of it is , so it's not really lost, just misplaced .
