He sounds like my next door neighbour who told me last night he had only caught 1 barbel, took him ages to land it and the fight bruised his hand.
He claims it was 27lb, my wife still doesn't believe me that he's a furkin liar.
Why oh why, "delusional" is polite. "Lying Bar-steward" being the colloquial.

I think he must be telling the truth , a 27lb barbel would take ages to land!

Ive been chub fishing the river severn for years and I fish that stretch . The river has now become a fantastic chub river and I lost count of the 5s Ive had from there and i took a few 6s along the way. River has done 7s and I have had them to 7lb 7oz which is the largest I know of to come of the river . For him to say and Angling Times to print it is awful and like of me and a few who target the chub in the river Severn makes it a joke.
In my opinion the chub is not the weight claimed. Sure it looks big but any fish will look so if held very close to a wide angled camera lens. If the fish had been held close to the captor's body then there would be more perspective to judge from. I am not fooled.

Having seen a couple of 8lb chub in the flesh, I can tell you this ain't even close. To be frank, I can't see why you're all debating this one, you need to be pretty dumb not to look at the picture realise the chap is not holding a ten pound chub. More like 5 pound (on a good day).
I see this all the time on club websites and in social media, where someone either lies or miss-weighs a fish, holds it out to the camera to make it look bigger than it is and there you go... don't they feel good about themselves? You only need to look at the size of the hands against the fish. Total bullshit. The comics love it.
This is an 8lb chub from my local river to give you an idea of scale. That is angling legend Mike Wilson holding it, a good friend of mine and all round national treasure.
Can't see any mention of that double being measured, eg length and girth.
