Lockdown getting to me in Cork, Ireland. Had an evening out on a local shore mark, inside Cork harbour. 25lb + conger

That's a very nice shore fish Alex!

Nice one Alex, My uncle used to tell me stories about his times fishing for Conger in Kinsale when he was growing up.
Unfortunately never got the chance to experience it with him!

A great fish, well done
I would like to do more conger fishing from the shore.
Tried it a few times. Nothing big, just a few straps.
What set up did you use??

Re: Easing the lockdown blues
Unexpected result size wise, it's a known conger mark and a couple of contacts had put me on the mark. First fish of 2021 was a black goby, followed by a micro pollock, which I was delighted with, anything beats the 100th night in a row stuck on the couch watching s***e on netflix. I used an old fibreglass beach rod, a daiwa emcast 5000 big pit reel, 80lb braid to a 100lb single hook paternoster. Twisted boom rig and a 6/0 cox and rawle meathook. some great fishing all along the west cork coast, we've a common skate mark close to shore we fish from the kayaks, great fun!
If it swims I want to catch it!

A very similar set up to mine....
I use 80lb or 100lb mono to a 6/0 to 8/0 hook with a basic running leger.
Mono mainline around 25lb to 30lb
Just haven't caught them as big as yours
Well done again

Cheers lads, good aul scrap indeed, 3 knot current pushing through made it even more fun! Great craic altogether, warmed the heart on a bitter evening, 2 degrees tops and a force 5/6 south easterly and snow flurries
If it swims I want to catch it!
