Irish Specimen Fish Commitee 2020 Report

Post by keeponchucking »

Any of the Irish lads on here know when the 2020 may be released?
Seem a bit late with it this year.

This was my thinking also. Was hoping to see if many perch were reported. I know of a good few that were caught last year.

They rarely get certified from looking back through the years apart from back when the barrow was throwing up loads of them

Quite a few perch over the specimen weight get caught but as Ben says, very few get included on the list. The Barrow was the place to go for years but I have'nt heard much about it for ages. Big perch seem to turn up regularly these days, probably because a lot of the EE lads specialise in UL lure fishing and dropshotting etc, but have no interest at all in the ISFC list.

Thanks for the replies lads. Years ago there was great perch being caught on the Barrow. All right on my doorstep but the bigger shoals just seem to have disappeared.

Few known individuals that fish the river probably every day took and still take bags of fish and play dumb when confronted. Very frustrating.

Perch stocks are never constant. It's a feature of the species, in Irish waters at least, of constant peaks and dips. Big stocks of perch and then a dramatic fall off in numbers, followed several years later by another peak, and so on....it happens everywhere. Ending up on the table probably does'nt help, but expanding and then collapsing numbers is a regular feature of their natural stock cycle anyway.
