Cheers Steve, wound up with the Shimano speedmaster 14000 xsc off the uttings site, looks like a nice reel, with many other uses then just off the beach, looks ok for cats, and pike as well thanks again Rog

Look for a Penn Spinfisher 6500 made in USA model
This is an all alluminium reel and spool that was last produced before the production went over to Chinese made plastics. They are bombproof and have landed some seriously big fish for anglers worldwide.
The drag is the size of a 4/0 Senator, the line roller is hardened stainless running on a bronze bearing, the anti reverse is all steel, etc.

If you cannot find one go for a Daiwa Emblem another design that has stood the test of time.
