ULTRA LIGHT FLOAT ROD?
Is there such a thing as an ultra or very light float rod around 10ft long?
I've searched but most shorter float rods seem to be for carp and I can't seem to find a very light spec of float rod of any length.

The Ian Heaps Silstar Tradition 330 11' Canal Rod is a very light-actioned one Gus. I bought one in a sale a few years ago.
Not sure if it is still a current model, but perhaps worth looking out for?

Re: ULTRA LIGHT FLOAT ROD?
Thanks for the info gents-I've had a good look on Ebay etc and something I have noticed is that most light float rods seem to be a helluva price.
I might go for the Drennan Acolyte Ultra 11ft one but at nearly 200 sovs I'm not sure I can justify it.
But I'll keep looking!

I searched Facebook Marketplace last night and managed to get a Drennan Acolyte 11ft near new rod for £130 posted. Too good a price to ignore!

Re: ULTRA LIGHT FLOAT ROD?
An original Normark is the lightest I I have ever fished with.
Early Normark rods were made with Japanese blanks of Diamara pale grey carbon and are easily identified by the steel collar on each female joint, full cork handles with sliding reel fittings and double leg Fuji guides. I don't think there were many shorter rods made.
There is also the Normark 11ft "Specialist" SDC series rods with a 1.25Ib.
Beware of rave reviews of first production rods I leant at my cost (£170) that the rods that follow are often built down and perform nothing like the originals when fished alongside.

I found a couple of those old vintage rods on Ebay, one was up for £500!!!!!!
For all that I'll be using it, the Drennan should be OK and £130 is just about the ceiling for justifying my buying it!

Re: ULTRA LIGHT FLOAT ROD?
I have an old drennan ultralight float rod - great for canal and small drains etc
Great rod but really only for silvers anything else is too hairy. I would note everything has become too carp focused so finding kit for smaller fish venues is a pain. Will continue to use my old image balsa wagglers on the ultralight as long as I can

Re: ULTRA LIGHT FLOAT ROD?
10ft is an unusual length. old skool leger rods might have been a way to do it. but the 11ft acolyte waggler is a great modern rod. ive had one for a few years. been good fun on 4lb line for bream tench and carp as well as the silvers. had a few go's this summer had a 14lb carp on it on 4lb line. they bend i can confirm. great fun.

Plenty of Oomph for bigger fish (landed Carp to mid-dubs on mine) but definitely light enough for snaller species such as Gudgeon.
Nicely finished too.

I've had everything from Gudgeon, decent Perch and Chub, through to mid-dub Carp on mine.

I usually hit the river Tay for them in winter it's a huge expanse of water but I'm only fishing the bit in front of me.
