Aspen 4 Fuel

Post by David.F.Scobie »

I've been using Aspen 4 fuel in the Coleman stove for a while now and it's review time.

So far the only negative for this product is it's lack of availability in NI meaning I've to get it shipped from the main land which is a bit of a pain in the hole if I'm honest. But apart from that this stuff burns cleaner than regular petrol it doesn't clog up the stove like petrol and it smells nowhere near as bad as petrol. I had to buy a new Coleman Stove about 5 years ago the last one died since then I've not put any normal petrol through it i don’t burn as much of the fuel as I did with petrol last winter I went through x2 5L jugs of Aspen 4 there's a small bit left in the fuel bottle from memory I was going through more petrol than I was the aspen stuff.

It's important to go with the blue bottle stuff as it has none of the lubricants and crap in it there's a specific orange bottle for chainsaws you don’t want to burn this because it will stink as bad as normal unleaded petrol.

All in all I would have no issued recommending this if you are still using the Coleman petrol stoves for your cooking and brew making during the winter.

I might try it in the MSR dragonfly this winter

I used to switch to the petrol stove when the gas started to struggle in the cold but stopped using it because of the mess. I started putting the gas bottle in the windshield which solved the problem of cold gas.

Been using this for a few years now and would never put pump fuel in my Coleman's ever again.

No residue, hotter flame, less soot and less flare ups.

Find a local stockists, about £17 the last lot I brought. You will pay a lot of postage as it's specialist carrier on petrol.

What goers wrong with Colemans? The generator clogs up---bit of red x in the fuel stops it
Price of a new generator---about £15

If you don't over fill your Coleman like most do (ya got to leave some air in the tank) and don't over pump it you don't get flare ups and you don't get no stink

a generator that's looked after will last for several years , you will spend an awful lot of money on aspen fuel in that time

It's not that Kev, it's the lack of smell and residue of Aspen, which is bloody horrible when using pump fuel.

Ok, just bought some redx, I have a Coleman double burner. How much redx should I put in a nearly full tank? 1 or 2 cap fulls maybe? Cheers.
