All the fox floats are overpriced s***e, either snap or let water in.

I enjoy using different pike floats, I have tried fox ones in the past, unfortunately the packaging is better than the product.

Don’t like loaded floats , an unloaded float is a more sensitive bite detector , set up correctly on a floatleger setup my homemade pencil deadbait floats will tilt over and lay flat , just like a tench lift bite, loaded floats are a recipe for a deep hooked pike , crap !

I like the compressed polystyrene sea floats, buoyant as a balloon and cheap enough.

Fox floats. Straight out of the packet... straight into the bin. Got the T shirt. Lesson learned. Never again.

stay away from the hi-vis dart floats too from fox ! I had some and all off them broke on the first good cast and the flight snapped off , in the end I glued a tube in the body of the float and made it into a sliding float

why anyone wants to buy all those plastic s***e floats is beyond me have used the high density sea floats for years they go on and on and are virtually indestructable,foam floats are also good fox products always look good in the packaging but the practical use of them is s**t

Where can you buy round balsa wood of the right size to make your own floats, or do you have to buy square and shave it?

Model shops normally have a good selection or you can get it off ebay

Im still using the hole through polystyrene sea floats exactly the same as Bob.
Had many of them for decades, since the '80's atleast, still work and catch fish.
Even lost one in a weirpool due to a big fish running around a rock and found it below the weir the following spring, coat of paint and it was good to go.
Ive found around 20 in the last 8years and hardly any of them are worth using or keeping (even if I knew what their uses actually were)!


Forgot to add;
I glue a small bead into the top of the tube, completely eliminates all that mucking about with beads, forever!

I checked out the price of balsa on ebay

By the time you add paint and epoxy or varnish and take the time to make them, drill them, etc

I'll stick with my cheap sea floats.

I know it's nice to catch on tackle you've made yourself, I can understand it with lures but a float's a float to me!

Agreed Bob, just bought some thanks for the link. Can't be bothered with making them....changed my mind.

Dont win any binus points for style but the low cost option to balsa is to use the thick part from the stems of Reed Mace aka Bull Rushes.

Takes a season to dry them out but a coat of varnish or similar and they last forever, unless you step on them!

I use them as a disposable no snag option when fishing near submerged trees and other debris, just attach top and bottom with elastic bands, to make them more visible just shove a feather under the top band.
No fashionista but damned effective.
