Scosche gobat 12000 portable power pack from Go Outdoors not good not so good at all!

Post by David.F.Scobie »

Go Outdoors let me down they did me dirty and the Scosche Gobat 12000 is worthless as a power pack. Save your pennies up for a different one folks.

Here's the review and back story, just to add a bit on to the video today Go Outdoors have said they have not received the return despite when I enter the Code/Ref on the tracking receipt it shows its been received at the other end.

more drama the more it drags on the less I want to spend my pennies with Go Outdoors in the future.

I bought the smaller capacity gobat from an eBay seller and had a similar fault.Worked first time I tried it then took it fishing and used it there and it wouldn't charge the phone. It would charge up but not charge anything. To be fair the eBay seller sent a replacement out quickly and that one has been fine so far....

I had 2 different ones that both were faulty so I wasn’t prepared to take the chance on a third one.

Since the video I've been talking to Go Outdoors and they have promised to Refund me for the item but as of yet I've not seen any refund being processed to my account, think another phone call is necessary.

I'm fast losing patience with this company and it's shockingly poor customer service.

Seems to be the bigger the company the worse the customer service is these days!

Well I think this is the last occasion I'll be giving my pennies to Go Outdoors shame really because up until this experience I've had positive experiences with them I bought pairs of Merrell and Scarpa walking / hiking boots from them in the past but this experience from start to finish has been one long problem after another.

I had to phone them yesterday on my lunch break and I got told I'd be refunded checking my online banking I can see it in my pending transactions so it looks like I'll be refunded at long last for this.

I don't blame you mate, after that I'd be spending my cash somewhere else . Haven't bought from go outdoors online only from their store and any issues I've had have been sorted back at the store. I suppose with online sales it's easy to fob someone off as they are not stood in front of you. At least you've got a refund so it could be worse.

The eBay seller and bought the first gobat from didn't ask for it back and the other day I tried it again and it worked strangely but I tried it again later and it didn't again. Must be a loose connection, they are not as robust as they claim which is their main selling point, poor really.

Check your till receipts in go outdoors a couple of times there’s been errors on mine. Good few years ago myself and a friend had a big spend in there. I found the receipt some time later and had been charged for a £70 item twice!

The claim that it's military spec technology made me chuckle, from being in the military I remembered the military spec meant it was provided by the cheapest competitor and generally terrible.

For example I can remember being issued a pair of desert boots for my time in Kuwait & Iraq the boots lasted 13 days before the sole separated from the boot, military spec boots meant I was walking about for a week with black nasty tape holding my boot together until I got to an American PX shop and bought a pair of Altbergs, this apparently was a known problem for the size 12 and above desert boots on a desert exercise in Oman the troops with normal sized feet all reported the boots failing but the MOD still pushed them out to the troops to be issued 18 month's later when we were building up for the Iraq invasion

There's a long list of military spec kit that is generally avoided because it's shockingly bad the best one that everyone who served in the forces from the mid-80s onwards will remember is the SA80 the A1 variant jammed more times than a jam jar full of jam and more than Bob Marley jammed whilst jamming the weapon was such a dog turd that it had to be sent back to H&K to be rebuilt and we got the much more useful and less jamming A2 which apparently according to some Royal Irish Regiment friends of mine who tested the original SA80 all said the weapon sent to the testing teams was chalk and cheese different to the weapon that was eventually bought by the MOD so hundreds of millions of pounds was wasted by penny pinching civilian willy sucker types in Whitehall. As I was leaving the A3 variant was being pushed out so more millions of pounds to get a service rifle for the British Armed Forces when the option of the American M16 then M4 platforms that were already battle tested was available and even in service with the special forces and marines but the penny pinching types forced pushed out the SA80 turd.

I had some amazing times in the RAF however there was plenty of not so good times, the back to back tours away to Iraq and Afghanistan, the crippling man power shortages, I found myself in a job where I wasn't enjoying it and 12 years was enough for me.

Oh god no there's no way they would let me near millions of pounds worth of aircraft hahaha I was a statistician who got imalgimated into the trade group 17 administrative (clerk) and because I was sent to work in MOD Whitehall the forces security vetted me to quite high levels and this horrid qualification dictated where I was sent to for the whole damn 12 years.

I quickly learned when the forces was offering you courses something was coming down the pipe line, like being offered courses to drive heavy vehicles at Leaconfield in Yorkshire and by “offered” it wasn’t the sort of thing you actually had any choice of saying “err no I don’t fancy that” the term Voluntold was coined for such things.

Wasn’t all bad, I got to do loads of excellent things in the forces like learning to parachute learning to ski doing sub aqua diving the forces be they the lessor branches like the army and navy do have or at least did have access to some cracking courses and if your into your sports then it's got to be the only job going where you got paid to go and play sport, I fished for the armed forces I played rugby for the RAF so it wasn’t all bad, it's quite a good life really but for me it was time to move forward to something new.
